My therapy style is drawn from many concepts and theories to form a hypothesis for how to help you heal. I regard neuroscience to be an integral component of that process. How your brain is working during our sessions is crucial. Our work together will be both difficult and rewarding.
When a person is under constant stress, cortisol levels can rise dramatically. This affects parts of the brain and can send incorrect messages about safety, which in turn cause suffering in life. Neurons that fire together, wire together. This happens without you knowing it. This is your brain’s lifelong capacity to adapt to your relational environment. Our hope is to make new meaning that aligns with the reality and not live in a false world that was created by trauma.
Our work together is based on a positive goal and can be life changing. This is hard work, so if you’re ready to take the first step, contact me. I’ll be waiting.
Therapy together may remind you of when you played a favorite sport or instrument:
These are some examples of what our therapy will be like together. Your brain will be online as memory navigates our course; coordination and attitude will determine our outcome. There's lots of you on board, and lots of me witnessing your path to healing.
Imagine this type of freedom in your mind and body: free from high anxiety, finding your true self.
As an ISTDP trained therapist, I use my eyes and ears to watch how your system moves feelings viscerally through your body, and how anxiety manifests throughout as a protective barrier to push down those difficult, complex feelings that are so hard to feel and process, from attachment ruptures in your youth. We will actively see what protective defenses have turned harmful in your life, such as critical thoughts, self-harm, devaluation, self-doubt, rumination, helplessness, detachment, and more. Mindfulness will be at a peak as I collaborate with you in a very active stance, as we get to the bottom of your reasons for suffering. Let’s build your capacity to feel more and think clearly, without the avoidance behaviors that decrease your confidence in life.
Intensive Short-term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISDTP), originally developed by Habib Davanloo, M.D., is a scientifically validated method of psychotherapy which dramatically accelerates the therapy, so that patients see a deep and meaningful change, often quickly. There is substantial evidence supporting ISTDP as an effective and cost-saving treatment for a broad range of psychiatric disorders, including Anxiety, Depression, interpersonal difficulties, and many chronic medical conditions.
